What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a cheap alternative to paintball. Airsoft guns are as real as it comes. In this article I will cover airsoft from a paintball players point of view.
How did you get started on airsoft?
When I first started playing paintball I had a stingray II. The balls were about 4 cents a ball back then (six years ago). I didn’t shoot much so the sport wasn’t that expensive. Then we had an “arms race” in my area and the balls were flowing like Niagara Falls. The sport of paintball got expensive very quick. I love gun games, but paintball was too expensive to play as much as I would like to. So while surfing the net I found out about airsoft.
How expensive is the sport?
I bought a cheap gun for 30 dollars and the balls run about 15 dollars for 5000. Check out AirsoftPro's prices:
Add the four double AA batteries and you are set. The batteries last quite a long time and the bb’s are reusable so if you play in your basement you can sweep them up and go again. Like anything you can spend as much or as little as you want to. Airsoft guns can sell for 2000 dollars each or as little as 15 to 20 dollars.
Is the sport fun?
In my opinion, all gun games are a blast. Airsoft and paintball are neck and neck with each other. If I had to choose between paintball and airsoft I would choose paintball. I favor paintball because I don’t get to play much and I actually play airsoft a lot more now than ever.
Are there any drawbacks to airsoft?
From my experience the ONLY drawback to airsoft is the lack of marking ability. This game is a cheaters heaven. Nobody ever wants to admit that they have been hit. I really can’t understand why though because when we play we usually run 20 games in 1 hour. So you are only sitting for 1 minute in between games most of the time. Make sure before investing in airsoft that your friends will call themselves out, otherwise the game will get old very quick!
Compared to paintball how fast do the games move?
I was surprised how fast airsoft games moved when I first started playing. All of us were brand new to the sport, but because we had a lot of speedball under our belts we really moved in this game. I think speedball is slow in respects to airsoft play.
Overall what are your general comments about airsoft?
Airsoft is a great game for anybody that loves to go outdoors and shoot guns. Airsoft can even be played in the house, which is excellent for rainy days or for just having a good time with your brother. We have six guns in our college dorm room for four of us and they are a blast all the time.
